About Us

Specialty Provisions was launched over eight years ago, but president Maier Cywiak has been in the meat business for years, and has worked "hands-on" in kashrus since high school: de-veining (treibering) and kashering fresh meats; progressing to kashering large commercial kitchens; and then serving in supervisory capacities in restaurant and catering facilities.

You could call it a family tradition:

"My father, Rabbi Nochum Cywiak, may he live and be well, is a well-known rabbi in the Boston area, with half a century of service as pulpit rabbi and shochet in New England and beyond. He is currently the president and Rav Hamachsher of the Orthodox Rabbinical Council of Greater Boston (ORC.) His father, Rav Yehuda Aryeh Leib Cywiak, zt”l, also served as the rov of a shul and a shochet in Cleveland. My maternal grandfather, Rav Shmuel Twersky, zt”l, was the rov of a shul on Boston’s North Shore and was involved in kashrus, as well, as was his father before him."

In 2003, Maier realized that it was getting harder and harder for New Englanders to find Glatt kosher meat at affordable prices.  Starting in the "old neighborhoods" of Revere and Malden, Specialty Provisions made its formal home in Newmarket Square in 2009, the heart of food distribution in Boston. The new location boasts a USDA- and HAACP-certified meat-cutting facility, and expansive refrigerated and freezer rooms.

Specialty Provisions packs retail cuts of beef, veal, lamb, and poultry for delivery throughout New England, across the country, and internationally. Bulk options help large families, synagogues, and Jewish organizations save serious money on meat and grocery items like gefilte fish, challah, herring, smoked salmon, kugels, frozen hors d’oeuvres, and high-end pareve cakes.
